ZAGREB - The audience, which filled to capacity Croatian Music Center auditorium, rewarded American guitarist Sharon Isbin with a long and persistent applause for her masterful interpretation of Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto -- or Concierto de Aranjues. On this occasion, which was Ms. Isbin's first in Zagreb, she collaborated beautifully with the Croatian-American conductor Zvonimir Hacko and Croatian Chamber Orchestra. It is regretful that this technically masterful performance was the only piece she performed on the program. But the listeners could easily surmise that what they were hearing was the best of the best as they listened to Rodrigo's popular work. It is exactly for this reason why six years ago Isbin received a Grammy Award for her album Dream of the World. She also received similar recognition for her interpretation and recording of the Rodrigo piece with New York Philharmonic. Also on this concert which was dedicated for humanitarian purposes, Copland's Appalachian Spring received an outstanding rendition. The concert concluded with Mozart's Symphony No. 41 in C Major.
